Sony Bravia Monolithic range to come with Freeview HD

Sony have launched its first range of HD Freeview TVs in the UK. The Sony Bravia Monolithic range has an integrated Freeview HD Tuners integrated, access to online content and Sony’s Internet Video Wide catch service.

Around the 75% of the 2010 Bravia range will include the Freeview HD built-in. There will also be access to services such as Channel Five on demand.

There are little details about release time or pricing at this moment.

Toshiba announce a HD Freeview TV the Regza WL

Following the news on the releases the panasonic tx p42g20b Toshiba had thrown their hat into the ring with the Regza WL. The TV comes in three editions, Regza RV, SL, and WL. The different versions have different technologies.

The three ranges use the MetaBrain processing engine an upgrade on their Resolution+ picture enhancement technology. The engine helps to upscale none HD pictures while still maintaining a good picture.

Sizes will start at 32, 37 and 40 inch for the RV range. The SL range is available with 32, 40 and 46-inch sizes, with the WL series boasting the larger 40, 46 and 55 inch panels.

No news on the dates for release or prices but it’s going to be before the world cup.

The Panasonic TX-P42G20B Goes on Sale

The first TV with a HD tuner has gone on sale, the Panasonic TX-P42G20B features a HD receiver which means you’ll be able to pick up a HD signal. The 42 inch TV boasts a massive 600Hz frame refresh and can also play media from external files via a USB port.

We’ll be reviewing the set soon and getting some prices, it’s going to be over the £1000 mark.

iPhone app for HD Freeview TV Schedule

Getting ready for the switch on of HD Freeview there is now a iPhone app which tells you the next 14 days of HD tv. The EPG lists all HD channels in the UK which includes the extras on SKY. It does also show the 4 HD channels that are going to be on HD Freeview.

The app is free to download for iPhones and new iPods.

ICECRYPT announce S4000HDPVR

Slightly lesser know ICECRYPT have announced the S4000HDPVR. The box comes with four options, with no hard drive, a 320GB version, a 500GB and a 1TB. The box runs an embedded Linux OS which a very cool indeed. There’s plenty of other features including two scart outputs, hdmi out put, usb in / out.

No price has been confirmed but we expect it to range from £160 up for the different versions of the hard drive.

Freeview HD Signal Check Database Updated

The database that allows you to check for a Freeview Signal has now been updated to show if users can get a HD Freeview Signal.

Currently Granada is the only region that has the HD signal, other areas of the UK will be switched on over the next year.

With a HD channel having to transfer much more data it means you’ll need a relatively strong signal to get a good HD picture. If you have no problems with the current freeview signal you should be ok.

It’s important that that customers check signal in their area before buying a box.

350,000 to leave Sky for Freeview HD?

A Freeview-commissioned YouGov survey has found out that 17% of Sky+ HD are ‘likely’ to switch their main TV to Freeview HD. That 17% could equate to around 350,000 sky subscribers.

Other results also include that 18% of the remaining UK analogue TV’s would also look to switch to a HD box. Where as only 12% would consider switching from Virgin Media’s digital cable service.

One of the benefits to sky HD package is having 30 HD channels, but many of them require a build of other packages e.g. sports or movies to get the HD versions.

Ilse Howling, the Freeview managing director, commented.

“If people want sport or big budget premium movies then clearly Sky has a very strong offer. If people want a public service version of HD – BBC, ITV, Channel 4 – then Freeview has a very strong offer. Consumers will have to make up their minds what’s important to them.”

Toshiba announces HDR5010 the first Freeview+ HD PVR

Toshiba have announced their first Freeview+ HD PVR box, the HDR5010. The new box will have a twin tuner to receive the HD signal and allow user to watch one channel and record another.

As per the name the box has a 500gb hard drive which is good for around 120 hours of HD recording. The box will also feature three HDMI slots and two USB slots. Like most of the new HD freeview boxes there is an ethernet port for future expansion, some say for external storage on the cloud.

Prices are going to be around £350 for the box with a release date of June 2010 just in time for the World Cup.

Right it’s time to launch the site. We’ve still go some further work to do on the product review pages but overall the main structure is in place. At the moment I’m working on the content of the site to add more useful information about HD Freeview.

Once the information is added in we’l update on the blog with any latest news and developments with HD Freeview. Most importantly we’ll start to review the different type of options and importantly start to get your view on the products.
